As we wind down 2017 and I look back at this time last year, and this time years past, I think of what I’ve learned.
The thing that stands out for me this year is – Memories. More than anything, Christmas is about memories. It’s the proverbial “stake in the ground”, a marker which enables you to see how far you’ve come.
As I think back to the Christmases of my childhood all I remember is what I did for those holidays and who I was with. My family, piling into the car early in the morning to drive 2 hours, looking for kittens in the barn, snowmobiling, tobogganing, of course, eating those yummy popcorn balls!
For 2018, my cousin, Gail Sheppard, has laid out a challenge: I’ll be working on my PHD. In the quilty world, PHD stands for “projects half done”. Gail is awarding fellow quilters their PHD if they accomplish the specified goal of finishing at least 12 projects half done. See her post linked below.
Normally I like to work on two projects at a time. It drives me nuts to have any projects not finished. But only into my second quilty year, I find myself overwhelmed with projects I want to do, some I need to do, and others just because. I did a tally, and have the following on my PHD list:
- Dresden quilt – started Aug 2016; blocks made, fabric purchased
- Autumn leaves quilt – has a deadline; fabric purchased and pattern selected
- Feathered star quilt – one block made Sep 2017
- Delectable Mountains quilt – flimsy done except for borders
- Little Girl quilt – has a deadline ; fabric purchased and pattern (this is next on my to do list )
- Christmas quilt #2 – blocks started
- Christmas quilt #3 – fabric purchased, pattern pending
- Winnie the Pooh baby quilt – sandwiched, ready to FMQ
- Bibs baby quilt – sandwiched, ready to FMQ
- Lewe the Ewe baby quilt – FMQ started
- Secret quilt – fabric purchased
- ….
Blast! The rules say I have to finish at least 12 to qualify. Well – no matter. It’s not the award at the end, it’s the fun of participating.
Wait a sec! I found one more! Yay!
12. Blues quilt – sandwiched, ready to FMQ.
OK, Gail – I hope I’ve met your criteria and I hope I’ve followed the instructions!
Happy Quilting – and Merry Christmas everyone
xo
